I agree that the change in additives may effect the decision on what type (brand and weight) of oil to use, but I would not want to sacrifice lubricity (which is improved with better flow...i.e., lower weight) at the same time. I will continue to research this. I have been reading posts on Bob the Oil Guy forum (you want boring...)and there seems to be no consensus....

If you look back to link that I provided Esso/Mobil Canada, 0W40 is available. One could get the old formulation which is still being sold.

I been running 20w/50w Redline. Sam at Protecknic in Houston advised its has better lubrication qualitys.Sam has been racing Porsches for 25 years now,he also rebuilds engines and has noted the Mobil 0w40w is like water.
Do you think this will harm my engine in any way (20w50w) ?

Your engine needs the lower viscocity for the vario-cam. He might be building engines, but his recommendation for 20 weight is wrong. You folks have seen some cooler temps this winter, I would NOT be running that high of a weight. If you knock out a vario/cam intake lifter, the repair bill will make you weak at the knees!

Page 136 in your owners manual.. 0W40 and 5W40 and 5W50 are the only oil recommendations for our engines. Please realize that at 5000RPM's the engine oil pressure prior to relief is greater than 6.5bars.

What's your thought on Swepco 15/40 Engine Oil 306? Strickly for street use.

Regardless of brand, I think that 5W50 is the better oil. The previous Mobil 1 formulation's that are still available in Canada, would be the "best" choice if you are running the with the factory fill.

Todd, I don't know anything about the Swepco, is it a fully synthetic oil? We need to run a full synthetic oil> your 993TT S should run a 15W50 or 20W50 (full synthetic)in Cali where it does get warm, especially with the turbo air-cooled engine.

Thanks for the feedback, if I can't get my hands on the previous Mobil 1, is it ok to use the current Mobil 1 at that the Porshce Dealerships use for the oil changes?

Todd most Porsche dealerships do not carry the 15W or 20W and just give you the 0W40 fill. Which for the air-cooled engine is way to thin.
