Default Transmission and Diff Oil Change Questions

Guys,

I'm planning on changing both in the next couple of weeks. 6 speed box 28k miles on an '03 X50.

I've seen references to a "flush" then change. How would one go about flushing? would you use the lubricant for the final fill in the flush (I have Mobil Delvac 75W – 90 on order)?

Thanks!

PS. should have posted here in the 1st place (tried 6speed), looking forward to this developing into a more technical forum!

Yes, the Mobil Delvac is the correct factory fill for the gearbox and front diff. It can be tough to find. Grainger Industrial Supply has it available.

On you wish list you might want to look for some 5W engine oil being that you are in Florida. There is a pretty good engine oil thread on this forum.

Interesting thread on the engine oil - I'm trying to get hold of some of the 5w - 50, failing that I'll go for the M1 T diesel stuff (5w-40). Maybe time to pull a favor of my business colleagues in Vancouver.

I already have a couple of gallons of the transmission stuff coming (Mobil Delvac)/

Changed out the tranny fluid today (6 speed), drain plug has metal filings; this looks bad to me, wondering if it's unusual?

The car has 29k on it I've owned it since 19k, I'm very easy on the 'box take my time on changes ect When I looked at the cars history it had only the scheduled Porsche inspections; I'm pretty certain it's the original oil.
